Nimis

Nimis (of Latin, "too much") is a site-specific artwork by Lars Vilks on the site Håle stones [1] in Kullabergs Nature Reserve in northwest Skåne. It is built of driftwood and consists of sparsely nailed together planks and trägrenar forming passageways, rooms and towers. Construction of Nimis began in July 1980 [2] Vilks revenge on the sea after having been close to drowning, [3] but also as a reaction to the trend prevailing in the arts, "nothing was permanent". [4] The authorities were not aware Nimis existence until 1982, and then decided that black building would be demolished. This became the starting point of a long judicial process that Vilks incorporated in their artistic practice and the process was thus to become part of the piece. The physical plant grew and measured after a few years, over 100 feet in length and some of the structure's tower extends 25 meters into the air. [5] Nimis has undergone constant updates over three decades and more than 160,000 nail has been spent over the years. [6] [7] Nimis was sold in 1984 to the German artist Joseph Beuys and after his death it was sold on to the artist couple Jeanne-Claude and Christo, 1986. [5] Although the beach where the plant is located is inaccessible has Nimis has become a tourist attraction. [8]
